ABOUT US
We, the student chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers, strive to provide students with hands on experience in engineering, business organization, and leadership in the automotive field. The goals of UD's chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers are outlined below: We want to create a community of individuals who all share the same passion in automobiles and the automotive industry by providing professional development and networking opportunities for students looking to pursue a career in the automotive industry. We also want to demonstrate UD culture and beliefs to our relationship with club affiliates while competing in national competitions with other universities. Finally, we want to exemplify respect and sportsmanship during off-campus opportunities that will show students more about the automotive industry and host on campus activities for the student body and community to enjoy.
OUR MISSION
We provide a source for undergraduate engineering students to develop collaboration skills and apply engineering ethics and practices from the classroom to design a competitive off-road vehicle, allowing for further growth by taking part in real-world learning that carries above and beyond the engineering curriculum at the University of Dayton.
Our History
SAE Baja's International Competition has been a cornerstone of engineering innovation since 1976. While the University of Dayton had teams competing in the 1990s and early 2000s, participation dwindled over the years. Although a team formed in 2019, they did not compete, and the pandemic ultimately paused all activity. In 2022, Sam Diller revitalized the Baja team, bringing together a group of 15 dedicated students. This renewed effort led to Dayton's return to competition in the fall of 2023. Since then, the team has grown steadily, gaining momentum and participating in multiple competitions, proudly representing the University of Dayton.
